Wall Street Journal Article re: VANMOOF bikes
A customer called up this morning from Pennsylvania and ordered up a Vanmoof after reading this great article in the Wall Street Journal.
Vanmoof's Like To Blend In With the Scenery & Pretend They Aren't There (But They Are)
This one, as you can see, is hiding behind some people walking near a SOMA construction site- as if we didn't know.
Vanmoof Bicycles --- San Francisco, California
Vanmoof bikes in San Francisco? Sure! Perhaps you've seen one or two of our bikes rolling around the elegant streets of San Francisco. That's because the Vanmoof is instantly recognizable and Suburbanbikes has been spreading the world with this beautiful bike now for over a year, with great success!
The Vanmoof is ideal for San Francisco riding and San Francisco riders. A vision of modernity, style and urbanity, the bike's Dutch upbringing is also a friendly reminder of the kinship that Amsterdam and San Francisco may have for a similar temperament.
If you see a Vanmoof rolling around in the city, ask them where they got it and it they'll tell you about our cool little shop just a few minutes outside of San Francisco.
Come by for a ride some time.
From "General Theory of Bridge Construction"
"Calculations for the purpose of determining the relations which the dimensions of timbers should bear to the weights which they are required to sustain, are based upon several hy-potheses which experience has proved to be correct within the usual practical limits. The most important of these are —The most important of these are — 1. The fibres are susceptible of compression and extension. 2. The degree of extension or compression will be directly as the force by which it is produced. 3. So long as the elasticity remains unimpaired, or so long as the fibres may be considered as perfectly elastic, the force required to produce a given extension will be equal to that which produces an equal compression, and the resistances to these forces will be likewise equal. These hypotheses will be applied to the most simple case of flexure, which is, that of determining the relations between an applied weight and the dimensions of a timber which are necessary to sustain it when one end is fixed and the other unsupported."

The Vanmoof Is A Memorable Bicycle
From a distance, or from up close, the Vanmoof speaks volumes of design
heritage, philosophy and creativity- all in a package that you can ride
It's a bicycle that - when not ridden - can be hung on a wall and appreciated as art.
But it's a work of art that is a very competent and agile mode of urban transportation. And it's well equipped.
Being not ugly is not easy as a bicycle. There are lots of ugly bicycles for them to emulate. There are lots of normal bicycles. The Vanmoof is not one of those . The Vanmoof is a memorable ride.
We said it's well equipped and it is. An integrated Phillips head and tail light powered by a front hub generator. Front and rear fenders. A kick stand. It even has a seat.
